Five sustainability initiatives at Kypreos
A 50 year old Australian company, Kypreos is focused on creating a more sustainable workforce and environment. Find out how.
Kypreos Group takes pride in delivering sustainable infrastructure, built sustainably.
As an Australian company that is focused on sustainability, the Kypreos team considers the local ecology as well as the wider environment in the decisions we make for every project.
For many years, we have ensured there is an environmental specialist involved with the work we take on as a company. This specialist works with us as we take the time to understand the impact of our projects on the local ecosystem.
In 2020 and beyond, Kypreos Group is focused on reducing waste, lowering emissions and recycling responsibly. Take a look at some of the ways we are making this happen.
RECYCLING
The practices of recycling and reusing have come a long way. At Kypreos Group, we are now developing recycled products to reduce our carbon footprint.
This includes producing road asphalt from used coffee cups, glass and plastic. By including these products in our paving mix, we are ‘closing the loop’ and giving people’s waste new life.
WATER TREATMENT
From industry to farming and in the home, water is used for almost everything we do. Most of this water ends up in our waterways, which is why it needs to be correctly treated beforehand.
Kypreos Group meets environmental best practice standards for site water runoff. This means we take every measure possible to reduce runoff and make sure polluted water is correctly treated to remove contaminants.
EMISSIONS REDUCTION
CO2 emissions are known to be harmful to the planet. Kypreos Group is committed to lowering the emissions we create at our facilities and at work sites.
One of the ways we reduce emissions is through proactive plant maintenance. This is a simple switch in the way we work, which minimises the need to replace entire machines or pieces of equipment and can prevent the issue of a breakdown contributing to unacceptable levels of emissions.
‘Responsive maintenance’ means something is only fixed when it breaks completely. By being proactive and sticking to a regular maintenance schedule, we are able to prevent small problems from becoming big ones so we save money as well as the environment.
Kypreos Group has also invested in retrofitting to make our existing equipment more environmentally friendly and reduce emissions.
RESPONSIBLE PURCHASING
Sustainable procurement (or responsible purchasing) takes the entire life-cycle of any item into account. This includes the environmental and community impact as well as the costs.
Our practices have evolved to include responsible purchasing for materials and equipment. We conduct an analysis so we feel confident we are making the best possible choice for the environment.
PEOPLE
Sustainability also covers the team we work with—at Kypreos Group we do not think of our people as disposable!
Many staff at Kypreos are part of our 10-Year Club, having been with the business for a decade or more.
To increase the ‘lifespan’ of each employee’s time with us, we invest in training and employee development. Employees are challenged to set and reach goals, and are given opportunities to redefine their skills and move to new areas of the business.
Kypreos is proud to be heading into this new decade as an environmentally responsible company. For more information, visit our website at https://www.kypreosgroup.com.au/
