The road to recycling | State Asphalts
In a world-first, Kypreos Group’s division, State Asphalts has partnered with organisations such as Closed Loop to create Pak-Pave asphalt products from recycled materials including coffee cups, glass and other streams destined for landfill.
Kypreos Group has been building a better future for Australia since 1970. While we are always pleased to work on new projects in Sydney and across Australia, over the last few years our focus has increasingly turned to taking a sustainable approach that minimises environmental impact.
By keeping sustainability at top of mind with each project, we are creating a better future for the community and our business.
With the environment and waste reduction in mind, The Group’s State Asphalts division has been working with an important company called Closed Loop. This innovative, Australian-led venture is taking responsibility for improving sustainability and keeping waste out of landfill.
Closed Loop is committed to building Australia’s ‘circular economy’ by transforming waste into useful materials that re-enter the local supply chain. Closed Loop started Simply Cups in 2017, Australia’s first and largest coffee cup recycling program, which rescues millions of cups from landfill.
From this program, Kypreos Group and State Asphalts have now created Pak-Pave T-Flex, the world’s first road surfacing material that includes recycled takeaway cups and recycled glass that would otherwise go to landfill.
Pak-Pave’s T-Flex is an economical mix with high stone on stone coarse aggregate content to provide improved texture and resistance to rutting. They also provide lower water spray from cars and absorb noise better than dense graded asphalt. The T-Flex products we have can be created to provide better skid resistance and cost-effective ways for councils and road service providers to resurface problem areas.
Within the Pak-Pave collection, State Asphalt is pleased to introduce Yalli-Phalt, SR Class Asphalts.
Yalli-Phalt: Recycled material road paving
In keeping with our mission to reuse suitable waste products to build Australia, Yalli-Phalt are a new asphalts created from recycled materials.
Yalli-Phalt is the same as conventional hot mix asphalt only that traditionally aggregates used have been replaced with crushed recycled glass along with recycled products normally sent to landfill.
This product has been tested to prove its workability, moisture sensitivity and rutting resistance. Ensuring that Yalliphalt can meet the current road specifications throughout Australia.
By using sustainable materials, Kypreos Group and State Asphalts are respecting the environment, supporting the move towards establishing a circular economy. We are proud to be world leaders in this area, with our Pak-Pave products being the first of their kind for many reasons.
Yalli-Phalt is now available for use on road projects to Auspec 245 and TfNSW specifications as 20, 14 and 10 mm, with glass percentages ranging from 2.5-10%.
