1.2 million reasons Australia is the lucky country
Australia has weathered the COVID-19 storm in so many ways and the current opportunities put our nation in an enviable position.
50 years ago Kypreos Group was founded to take advantage of Sydney’s rapid growth trajectory. It has since been part of many major infrastructure projects as the city evolved to become a major global destination.
While the doors of the world are not wide open right now, Sydney and indeed all of Australia finds itself in the enviable position of still being poised for growth. And while there have definitely been jobs lost and businesses forced to close their doors, opportunities still abound for jobseekers.
The reason I titled this article ‘1.2 million reasons why we are the lucky country’ is that Australia employs close to this number of people as construction workers. Close to 10 per cent of Aussies work in construction, with numbers predicted to rise.
In a world where jobs seem to be harder and harder to come by, this is a reason to feel good about the future.
Construction and infrastructure jobs are on the rise in NSW
A couple of years ago, NSW released its ‘Building Momentum’ plan to map out infrastructure and development between 2018 and 2038. This put multiple developments and upgrades on the table.
As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Government has nominated infrastructure as a key driver to economic recovery, announcing dozens of projects to the value of billions of dollars.
New and improved roads, sporting facilities and precincts will form a big part of the foundations as the country gets back on track economically. These projects will create thousands of employment opportunities.
This is reflected in current job advertisements. As reported in the Daily Telegraph in early November, “Seek’s list of Australia’s 20 most needed workers saw labourers move up 12 places to 13th while plant and machinery operators rose 20 places to 18th, based on job advertisements in July, compared with those in February 2020.”
If you’re looking for a career switch, construction could be the answer.
Is the construction industry for you?
Kypreos Group is the proud employer of a team of approximately 250 construction industry workers. We are playing our role in the country’s current economic recovery plan by taking on major projects including Alford Point Road upgrade, NSW, Central Coast Highway Upgrade, NSW, Blacktown Stabling Facility Extention, NSW and the NSW M5 Motorway Widening.
Over the course of our 50-year history, we have been proud to build a strong team. Many of our staff are in the ‘10 Year Club’ and have been able to rise from labouring positions through the ranks of the industry with our full support.
Despite its strong employment opportunities, there are people who shy away from the idea of working in construction because they are worried it’s not for them. They think that because they are female or they don’t have the right cultural background they won’t fit in or find the work fulfilling.
However, the construction companies that are on the path to success recognise that diversity is a key driver of productivity and growth. At Kypreos Group, we encourage anyone who believes they have the right skills and mindset to apply to join our team. This includes females as we are fully behind the push to increase female representation above its current levels of under 15 per cent.
As an employee at Kypreos, we will challenge you to achieve your own goals and to grow in your own talents. We will provide you with opportunities to refine your skills; be exposed to new ideas and areas of expertise; provide you with mentorship and encourage you to share your skills and knowledge within a supportive team environment.
One of our key values is to treat our employees, clients and members of the public with respect and honesty. By doing this, we can continue to grow our 10 Year Club with engaged and happy employees who appreciate having long term job security and the chance to expand their skills as part of their job.
